About Fayette Historic State Park
Fayette Historic State Park is unlike any other campground in Michigan's state park system — it centers on the remarkably preserved ruins of Fayette, a 19th-century iron-smelting company town that operated from 1867 to 1891 on the Garden Peninsula. More than 20 historic buildings still stand along the limestone bluffs of Snail Shell Harbor, including the massive furnace complex, company offices, hotel, and worker housing, making it one of the best-preserved industrial ghost towns in the country.
The modern campground sits about a mile from the historic townsite and offers 61 electric sites in a wooded setting. It's a smaller, quieter campground than most UP parks, drawing history buffs, photographers, and campers looking for a genuinely different Michigan state park experience.

The Fayette Townsite
