About Lakeport State Park
Lakeport State Park stretches along more than a mile of rocky Lake Huron shoreline north of Port Huron, split into two sections on either side of US-25 and connected by a pedestrian overpass. With 250 total sites, it's one of the larger state park campgrounds on Michigan's east coast.
The North Modern Campground offers 194 sites and the South Modern Campground has 56, both with 30- and 50-amp electric hookups and pull-through options for larger rigs. Mini cabins and a camper cabin are available for those without their own gear, and a group-use area accommodates up to 60 people.
Things to Do
The shoreline here is rockier than the sandy beaches further south, which makes it a favorite for beachcombing and metal detecting — permitted throughout the park. A buoyed swim area sits in the day-use section, and seasonal naturalists run nature programs through the summer. A rentable pavilion in the day-use area handles group gatherings.
Best Time to Visit
Summer is the park's busiest stretch, with day-use hours running Memorial Day through Labor Day, though the campground itself operates on the broader spring-to-fall season. Fall brings quieter camping along the shoreline.
Reservation Tips
Lakeport draws steady traffic from the Port Huron and Detroit metro areas but is generally easier to book than the state's marquee Great Lakes parks. Reserve through MiDNRReservations.com within the 6-month window, and ask about pull-through sites if you're bringing a larger RV.
Getting There
The park sits directly on US-25 (Lakeshore Road) about 10 minutes north of Port Huron, roughly 90 minutes from Detroit via I-94.
