About Orchard Beach State Park
Orchard Beach State Park sits on a 100-foot bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, just 3 miles north of downtown Manistee. It's built for the view as much as the camping — a small, scenic park where the campground itself looks out over the lake, known regionally for some of the best sunsets on this stretch of coastline.
The campground has 173 total sites: 166 modern electric sites (30- or 50-amp), 6 walk-in tent sites, a camper cabin, and a mini cabin. A recently restored 850-ton historic structure includes a pavilion and viewing platform for taking in the lake views.
Things to Do
Over 3.5 miles of trails wind through the park's old-growth forest, with the bluff-top viewing platform as the natural finish for an evening walk. Note that beach access from the park itself is no longer available due to erosion along the bluff — nearby Manistee has separate public beach access if swimming is the priority. EV fast-charging stations are available on-site, and the park is a good base for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing once winter sets in.
Best Time to Visit
Sunset watching is the park's signature experience, so any clear evening in summer or early fall is worth planning around. Fall color along the bluff trails is another highlight before the campground closes for the season.

Getting There
The park is just off US-31, about 5 minutes north of downtown Manistee and 25 miles south of Ludington along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
