About Wilson State Park
Wilson State Park is a compact 36-acre park on the north end of Budd Lake in Harrison, built on the historic site of the Wilson Brothers Sawmill from the late 1800s. It's small compared to Michigan's sprawling recreation areas, but that's part of the appeal — an easygoing, family-friendly lake park in the middle of the state.
The modern campground has 158 sites with 20/30-amp electric service (50-amp on select sites), plus a lodge and mini cabin for non-tent stays. A sanitation station, beach house, and playground round out the amenities.
Things to Do
Budd Lake is a 175-acre all-sports lake popular for boating, and the park's accessible walkway leads to a swimming area with floating chairs for visitors with mobility needs — a track chair is also available to borrow at no cost. Anglers come specifically for muskie fishing along the shoreline, and paddlesport rentals make it easy to get out on the water without your own kayak or canoe. The nearby Leota ORV Trailhead and area golf courses give non-water activities a home too.
Best Time to Visit
Summer is the park's busiest stretch for boating and swimming on Budd Lake, while fall muskie fishing draws a dedicated crowd of anglers. The campground typically operates April through November.

Wilson is one of the easier central Michigan parks to book on short notice, though summer holiday weekends still fill. Reserve through MiDNRReservations.com within the 6-month window, and consider the lodge or mini cabin if you don't have camping gear.
Getting There
The park is just off US-27 in Harrison, roughly halfway between Mount Pleasant and Houghton Lake, making it a convenient stop along the central Michigan corridor.
